Dental check-ups are an essential part of maintaining excellent dental health. They include a visual examination of your teeth, gums, and the whole mouth area. We recommend a check-up every six months.

Regular checkups help to detect the early signs of dental problems as well as oral cancer, so the proper treatment can be carried out before a problem becomes serious. After your check-up, you will receive a custom-made treatment plan explaining any further treatments that may be required.

Dental X-rays may be taken to look for specific problems or to help the dentist check the general health of your teeth. ODL Dental clinic uses only digital x-rays, which reduces x-ray exposure by more than 75%.

For more complicated treatments such as implants and in some cases for root canals and orthodontic treatments, we use the latest 3D x-ray technology to see detail not otherwise be visible using a regular 2-D x-ray.

To treat a cavity we will remove the decayed portion of your tooth and then "fill" the area on the tooth where the decayed material was removed. Fillings are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth and teeth that have been worn down from misuse (such as from nail-biting or tooth grinding).

There are many techniques available to restore a broken or decayed tooth using a tooth-coloured filling material. At ODL Dental Surgery we use both composite 3M®, Empress Direct® and porcelain restorations.

Treatment Costs

White fillings:
From £70 to £220 (depending on the size of the filling)

A root canal treatment is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (known as the ‘pulp’) is infected through decay or injury. If the pulp becomes infected, the infection may spread through the root canal system of the tooth. This may eventually lead to an abscess. If a root canal treatment is not carried out, the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be removed.

We use the latest equipment and techniques such as ProTaper® to ensure the best result and longevity of the treatment.

Treatment Costs

Incisors/canines:
£480 + the cost of a filling and/or a crown
Premolars:
£520 + the cost of a filling and/or a crown
Molars:
£640 to £690 + the cost of a filling and/or a crown

Although our first priority will be to save a tooth, in some cases, problems may have developed to a point where there is no other option than to carry out an extraction.

Some reasons why teeth may need to be extracted include:

  • Severe tooth decay or infection

  • Wisdom teeth or extra teeth that are blocked or preventing other teeth from coming in.

  • Severe gum disease which may affect the supporting tissues and bone structures of teeth

  • Preparation for orthodontic treatment (braces)

  • Fractured teeth

Simple extractions are performed on teeth that are visible in the mouth, usually under local anesthetic. Surgical extractions involve the removal of the teeth that cannot be easily accessed either because they have broken under the gum line or because they have not grown in fully above the gumline.

Here at ODL Dental Surgery, our dental surgeons are highly experienced at carrying out extractions using the latest techniques. We aim to make your visit as comfortable and painless as possible.

At ODL we appreciate that some patients are apprehensive about going to the dentist and that many people even neglect going to the dentist to get their teeth taken care of due to fear and anxiety. Our intravenous sedation will allow an anxious patient to be sedated just enough to be pain-free and unaware of the treatment being carried out.

Benefits of conscious sedation includes: reduced awareness of unpleasant sights, sounds and sensations associated with the procedure along with reduced anxiety and pain.
